The world's most prestigious annual
knowledge management event

"Having spoken at and attended KM Asia 2010, I can say that this event is the key place to be for anyone who is responsible for driving an Asian organisation forward through knowledge management, whether in the public or private sector. I am delighted to be returning as a keynote this year and looking forward to the opportunity to hear from so many award winning case studies from across the Asian continent and beyond."
Ron Young, Chief Knowledge Officer, Knowledge Associates International Ltd, UK

KM Asia has an eleven year track record in delivering insights from the cutting edge of management thinking, along with best-in-breed international and regional case studies from both government and enterprise. Yet, as an event, we are always learning too, and we understand that even the best KM strategies and techniques from the US, UK and Europe cannot simply supplant those used in the Asian continent and context where the culture is unique and different again between Asian countries.

LEARN FROM PRACTICAL CASE STUDIES

So this year's KM Asia will bring you more directly applicable and practical award winning local and regional case studies than ever before. You can still expect to learn from the success stories of international organisations but those that are featured in this year's agenda have been especially researched and selected to ensure that they hold a strong relevance for senior Asian knowledge executives and practitioners.

We are delighted to present:

  • A case study from international FMCG manufacturer Mars, which will look at how global knowledge sharing has delivered $1billion USD of cost-savings for the famous brand
  • Our representative from the Egyptian Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center who will demonstrate how KM techniques are enabling a Middle Eastern country to narrow down the gap between its public policy initiatives and the needs of its people
  • Our expert from Daniels Sharpsmart in Australia, whose interactive game will deliver insights into the management concern of complexity which our research shows is gaining pace as a KM issue within the Asian region

HEAR ASIAN IMPLEMENTATIONS

But for true applicability, we know that it is important to you to hear from knowledge practitioners who are delivering KM strategy directly in a variety of leading Asian organisations and, at KM Asia 2011, you can hear the award winning stories of Tata Steel and Wipro from India; the Korea Water Resources Corporation; and the Intellectual Property Office and Supreme Court both of Singapore. You can also hear from leading Singaporean professional services firm Fragomen and Arup from Australia on their Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway case study.

SINGAPOREAN OPENING KEYNOTE ADDRESS

To put all of this KM activity in Asian government organisations and businesses into context we are delighted to welcome, too, our special guest speakers from Singapore, Dr N. Varaprasad, Director, London School of Business and Finance, Singapore and former Chief Executive of the National Library Board, Singapore who will open the conference with his co-author Johnson Paul from the National University of Singapore on the subject of Asian cities as knowledge hubs.

GLOBAL MANAGEMENT INSIGHT

The latest management thinking from around the world has always been an essential factor in challenging the way we do KM in any country and this year's KM Asia will not disappoint.

Dave Snowden is one of the most highly regarded speakers, not just in Asia but globally, because of his ability to push people to think harder and his 90 minute keynote, during which he asks participants to adopt a controversial way of thinking, is always something to look forward to.

This year, Ron Young, who also has many years of experience working in Asia, will return by popular demand, too, to deliver his practical "Four Dimensions of KM" framework.

We are pleased to welcome a brand new speaker to the programme, David Griffiths from the University of Edinburgh and the Arab Open University, who will impart his experiences of working with Asian companies and the work he is doing on redefining KM.

CONNECT AND SHARE WITH YOUR PEERS

All good knowledge managers know that connecting, conversation and interaction are critical factors when it comes to how we learn and for this reason plenty of interactivity has been built into the programme for KM Asia 2011.

Not least, a 90 minute knowledge café at the end of the first day, which will be run by Karuna Ramanathan from the Singapore Armed Forces and will give conference participants the opportunity to discuss their learnings and share their views in an informal and friendly atmosphere. You can also join in with a complexity game; win individual and team prizes in a quiz-show style session on knowledge transfer with the former Global Knowledge Director at Cadbury Schweppes plc Arthur Shelley; experience a conversational style of chairing throughout; and expect interactive sections as part of many of your speakers' presentations, during which you can ask questions and contribute your thoughts. Finally, a panel of speakers representing the different Asian countries will lead a debate on the future of KM in Asia, whilst asking you to discuss the same question with your peers sitting on the same table.
